Job Title: SQL/Oracle Database Administrator (NYC) Financial District
Full Time Consultant: 6 month minimum, could lead to full time salary position.
Rate: Open, depends on experience. Please email your desired rate.
Description: Hands-On individual who can work independently using technologies like Oracle EBS 11i/12i , Application Server, Oracle Databases and Microsoft SQL Server technologies for Online Transaction processing (OLTP) as well as Decision support systems / Data warehouse database systems.

Lead design & implementation of high availability and business continuity solutions for Oracle Databases using Real Application Cluster & Standby Database architectures, installing/tuning RDBMS, developing and automating routine tasks for streamlining operations, backup / recovery strategies, disater recovery.

Job Summary: Client requires an experienced Oracle database administrator who is experienced with Windows/Linux system administration, Oracle Apps DBA, SQL server (2005-2008) and IT Infrastructure.

SQL Server Administration:
Installation/ configuration of SQL server 2000 thru 2008R2
User access managements,
Server upgrade, Database update,
Backups/ restore, log shipping
SQL reporting and journaling
Configure failover, mirroring for database high availability.

Oracle Apps DBA Experience:
Day-to-day maintenance, ensure integrity, security and availability of the database.
Administration and troubleshooting Concurrent Managers, Applications sys admin tasks, Oracle Applications Manager (OAM).

Core DBA Experience:
Extensive understanding of Oracle Architectural components (memory structures, processes, redo, rollback etc), working and usage, Oracle internals (segment, extent and block level), logical and physical backup/ recovery principles, Oracle utilities Export/ Import, performance tuning measures, wait events, locks/ deadlocks, latches.

Tools -- Oracle Enterprise Manager, TOAD, PL/SQL Developer, Discoverer Desktop, SQL Developer.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs all aspects of data and database administration including hardware and software evaluation and installation, logical and physical database design and implementation, structured testing of database designs, applications, and technology platforms, security administration, backup and recovery planning, capacity planning, performance and tuning, research and evaluation of new tools and techniques, and development of policies, standards and procedures related to the database environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Guidance from Lead or Senior Database Administrators performs nightly or weekend maintenance tasks when required.
Understanding of SQL Server editions and utilization of all the built-in components
A good understanding and interpreting SQL Error Logs and Event Logs
Able to perform database schema changes and the causes and effects of these changes.
Plan, coordinate and setting up SQL Audit environments for any intrusions or data/schema manipulation without proper access rights. Setting up DML\DDL auditing events for DBA review.
Review project scope and develop a project plan. Providing a BA/PM a realistic timeline of a project.
Review and understand data modeling to define relationships and to make appropriate changes.
Assist other developers on poor performing queries and enforcing best practices protocol for deploying SQL Server changes.
Monitoring and understanding Perfmon / Profiler events.
SQL Server Replication
Understanding SQL Server lock escalation and lock hints
SQL Server security management and best practices


NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs routine and customary operational and monitoring activities to ensure the database environment is stable and capable of meeting ongoing business needs
Plans and executes testing and implementation of major systems
Evaluates technology and techniques to implement and maintain databases and database environment
Develops, implements and tests backup and recovery plans




ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EDUCATION

2-3 years' experience with database technology
Knowledge of designing and creating tables, views, triggers, partitions, complex stored procedures, functions, indexes and other database objects.
Knowledge in extracting and transforming data using DTS/SSIS Import Export Data, Bulk Insert, BCP and DTS/SSIS Packages.
Knowledge and experience with custom report generation using SSRS 2008 (SQL Server Reporting Services)
Experience with Installation/Configuration and administration of SQL servers (2005 and 2008) in both Clustered/Non-Clustered environment.
Extensive experience in Query Optimization and Troubleshooting of SQL Server related issues.
Proficiency with dynamic SQL
Experience with Apex SQL Toolsets or other similar tools a plus
Excellent communication skills. 


An Institutional Broker Dealer in Midtown has a current need for a SENIOR DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR to join their team.


ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Production support of databases on Oracle, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server and Sybase on Linux/Unix and Windows servers.
- Installation, maintenance, upgrades and release management of databases.
- Develop, document and deploy database technical services.
- Provide top-level technical assistance to business units and Customer Support department.
- Work with peers and other support organizations to deploy new services.
- Provide documentation and customer support for new services.
- Operate in teamwork environment with internal and external customers.

SKILLS:

- Hands on 24x7 Production/QA/Dev support
- Proactive monitoring, notifying and tuning database and application for optimal performance.
- Perform database backup and restore, ensure data recovery, maintenance, data integrity and space requirements.
- Programming/Shell scripting to automate daily DBA tasks.
- Work with developers for query performance tuning.
- Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix and Windows Architecture.
- Experience in Oracle 10g/11g data guard, MS-SQL 2008/2005 database replication.
- MySQL 5.x/Sybase 15.x replication experience is a plus.
- Experience in Oracle EM, Quest Foglight.
- Data Warehousing, Data Modeling and logical/physical database design are a plus.
- Ability to articulate technology in business terms and translate business needs into technology strategy.
